Festa Major de Santa Tecla, Sitges' annual children-oriented festival
The Small Annual Festival of Sitges is tiny and offers something little, given that children are the stars of this festival in honour of Saint Tecla, which was declared a Festival of National Heritage Interest in 2016 by the Generalitat de Catalunya. This distinction acknowledges its strong cultural, traditional and symbolic value, particularly the prominent role played by children in transmitting the local festival heritage.
It's a day dedicated to little ones... but on a big scale, with giants, big heads, dragons, castles and fireworks for the entire family. Kids learn the tradition from the adults and carry it on with originality and enthusiasm, a living legacy that grows generation after generation. It's a festival that combines the joy of children, the festive heritage and local warmth on a day that promotes learning and cultural transmission.
The festival is small in name but has a HUGE heart!
Now you know: come to Sitges on 23 September and enjoy a fantastic day with a ‘little’ annual festival.
