Festa Major de Sant Bartomeu, Sitges' main annual festival

Declared a Festival of National Heritage Interest in 2016

The Sant Bartomeu annual festival is the biggest festival in Sitges. And when we say biggest, we mean really big. The feast day of Sant Bartomeu [Saint Bartholomew], the town’s patron saint, is held on 24 August. The essential events, like fire castles, the exit from mass, processions, dances and more, have been documented since the nineteenth century and are still going strong today, with practically all the events lasting since 1843.

It is an event with mediaeval roots and a contemporary dynamic enriched with traditions engraved in the collective memory. It combines religious and folklore events, music, dance, human towers and fireworks with a strong sense of community, as the participants and spectators celebrate it together.

On 23 and 24 August, giants, devils and other folk dances take to the streets for 36 intense hours, beginning with the entrance of the chirimia player at midday on the 23 August, followed by a host of other events. Plus, at eleven pm the spectacular traditional fire castle is held on La Fragata beach.

A veeeery big party!
